The Sacrament of Matrimony requires special sacramental preparation. We recommend that couples contact the church at least 12 o 6 months in advance of their desired wedding date to begin their preparation.

DOCUENTS AND REQUIREMENTS

FOR THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIEGE

 

​​We are happy that you are applying to be married in the Catholic Church. For that, both the bride and groom must meet with the priest in advance and provide all the requirements for the celebration. A marriage date cannot be assigned until the case is complete.​​​​​

  • At least one must be registered at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Parish.

  • The bride and groom must present a Baptismal Certificate with notations issued within the last 6 months. Please include the address of the parish where the baptism took place.

  • The bride and groom must complete the marriage registration form.

  • The parents of the bride and groom, of if unavailable, close relatives, must complete the Prenuptial Witness Affidavit form. Two completed forms are required for each (four forms total=.

  • For the celebration, 2 witnesses must be present: one man and one woman over 18 yar old.

  • Civir Marriage Certificate (If already civilly married). If not civilly married, a Marriage License must be obtained. It must be requested at the Courthouse and submitted to the parish office at least one month prior to the wedding. Without this license, the sacrament cannot be celebrated.

  • Completion of pre-marriage preparation is required. A certificate or letter of completion must be provided.

  • Weddings are celebrated according to the parish calendar. Weddings are  not celebrated on Sundays.

  • Couples wishing to marry in another parish should contact that parish's pastor to learn the requirements.​

  • If the wedding will take place outside the Archdiocese of Atlanta, the priest at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus must be informed at the first meeting. There will be a $25.00 fee to cover prepartation and mailing of documents.

  • If the bride and/or groom have been previously civilly married to someone else. the annulment process must be started and completed before beginning marriage preparation. There will be a $25.00 parish fee to cover mailing costs to the ecclesiastical tribunal. The following documents may be required: 

Divorced:

  1. Original Divorce Decree and original Marriage Certificate.

  2. Decree of Nullity from an ecclesiastical tribunal (if applicable)

Widowed:

  1. Death Certificate of the spouse.

  • If either the bride or the groom is not Catholic, a permission or dispensation must be requested by the pastor from the archbishop, and additional documents will b required.

  • The ceremony will be scheduled only after all documentation is completed and verification (through contribution envelopes) shows that the bride and/or groom have been attending the parish regularly.
