ST. THERESA OF THE CHILD JESUS

For Catholics, the Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Whether we are baptized as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church’s way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God.

For Children under 7 years old:

​

Step 1: PAPERWORK PREPARATION

 

A) Parent (s):

​

• The parent(s) must be registered at the parish and be an active member(s) of our parish before asking for the Sacrament of Baptism. Mass attendance is verified by the submission of your weekly envelope.​

• A completed Baptismal Form must be submitted to the parish office.

• if the parent(s) is registered active member of another parish, a Letter of Good Standing from their current Catholic parish and dispensation from their Pastor is required.

• A copy of the Child's birth certificate must be submitted to the parish office.

B) God Parent(s):

​

• Godparents that are registered at St. Theresa must be verified by the parish office to be in Good Standing and actively attending Mass. Mass attendance is verified by the submission of your weekly envelope.

• If the Godparents are not a registered member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, a Letter of Good Standing from their current Catholic parish must be submitted to the office.

• Each God parent must complete and submit a Godparent Certificate of Eligibility Form.

• If either God Parent is married to the parish office.

 

Step 2: PREPARATION CLASS

• Only after submitting all paperwork from step 1 to the parish office, will parents/godparents be able to take the Baptismal preparation class.

   The Class is held in the Conference Room of the Parish Life Center. 

​

• English Baptism Class is offered every second Saturday of the month at 2:00pm-3:45pm

• Spanish Baptism Class is offered every second Saturday of the month at 4:00pm-5:45pm

Step 3: CELEBRATION

​

• After taking classes, Parents must contact the parish office at (770)489-7115 to schedule the Baptism celebration according to the clergy/parish schedule. The Baptism will not be scheduled until there is verification (by envelope submissions) the Parents of the child have been actively attending Mass as stated in Step 1.

​​For Older Children.

​

If the children are 7 years or older, they will go into a Level 1 Religious Education class. They will receive the Sacraments of Baptism at the specified time towards the completion of the first year of PSR class. The child will continue with the Level 2 PSR classes the following year to prepare for the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

 

Parents will also need to attend weekly Sunday Mass with their child.
