ELIJAH CUP MINISTRY
The Second Vatican Council tells us that it is the job of the laity to pray for and foster Priestly and Religious vocations, and this has been repeated by St. John Paul II in many of his teachings. Upon receiving the Vocation Chalice of Elias, the families of our parish ask for vocations for a week. Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations.
A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nourished by prayer. When we ask for vocations, we raise to Our Father those men and women whom He is calling in a very special way. We hope that those who bring the Chalice into their homes will continue to pray daily for vocations.
Every weekend Mass, a family (who signs up in advance) takes the Elijah Cup into their home and places it in a prominent space to use as a focal point while praying daily for an increase in religious vocations.
